Refer a patient

Referring a patient is so easy!

  • Give referral to patientSimply hand your patient a referral addressed to one of our dermatologists at Dermo Direct. That's it! The patient then uploads the referral during their online booking process.
  • Send us the referralFax the referral on 08 8432 1682, or alternatively you can email us on refer@dermodirect.com.au
  • Patient book an appointment Patient goes onto our website and selects their dermatologist, appointment time and books the appointment online.

Doing dermatology differently

Traditionally, teledermatology services were “store-and-forward” services, where you have to send photos of your patient and await a response.

The amount of information provided would be limited, and dermatologists couldn’t ask the relevant questions or discuss the condition with the patient, so there would be back-and-forth discussions between GP and specialist. Dermo Direct is an easy way for GPs to get specialist support for their patients.

The appointment takes place in real-time between dermatologist and patient, with the patient at home or a location of their choice.

We’ve performed consultations with patients at a remote work site, at home, in a caravan park, in an office, even in a parked car, using a mobile phone or tablet.

If your patient would like you to be present at the consultation, they can book the appointment for a time that suits you both and the video appointment can take place in your practice, or they can share their email video link with you.

Frequently asked questions for GPs

What about skin cancer?

The only conditions that we won’t perform consultations for are skin checks, potential skin cancer lesions or assessment of moles, for which in-person assessment remains the gold standard of care.

How much will it cost my patient?

Your patient will be left out-of-pocket by $200 for a standard consultation and $180 for a review consultation after Medicare rebates. Please see the pricing page for more information. Medicare rebates are available for all patients that are referred by a GP.

I have patients who need to see a dermatologist, what now?

Give them a referral to one of our Dermatologists, and direct them to www.dermodirect.com.au to make their booking.

I'm interested in your Telehealth platform, what next?

Dermo Direct website is powered by the Diagnode Telehealth platform.

It is a customisable Telehealth platform that incorporates your own clinic landing page, including functions to assess Telehealth rural eligibility, booking and scheduling, online payment system, video consultation and Medicare tax invoice for Medicare rebatable appointments. This system was developed to streamline medical Telehealth for patients, doctors and reception staff.

What is Dermo Direct's physical address?

8/5 Tiwi Gardens, Tiwi NT 0810

Can I refer patients who are currently overseas to Dermo Direct, your online dermatology service?

Yes, but only under specific conditions:

  • The patient must be your pre-existing patient
  • They must be temporarily overseas for less than 90 days (about 3 months)
  • You (the referring GP) must be practicing in Australia

These requirements are in place to comply with practitioner indemnity insurance regulations and ensure continuity of care. If your patient doesn’t meet all these criteria, they will need to wait until they return to Australia to access our services.
